MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two Point High School music students have been ranked among the best students in the world, according to their music examination results.
Maia Leonard, who plays the flute at Grade 5 music level, and Handri Viljoen, who is a Grade 4 music level singer, completed their Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams and achieved excellent results.
Maia (15), tutored in the flute by Point's head of music, Louise van Wyk-Visser, achieved 140 points out of 150 (93%) in her international exam.
Due to this outstanding achievement Maia is being considered for an international concert hosted by the British Royal College of Music later this year for the 16 highest achievers around the world.
Handri (17), who is also being trained by Van Wyk-Visser, also achieved 140/150 (93%) for her exam and is also being considered for the prestigious concert.
Bridget Harrison, representing the London Royal College of Music, said it was unusual that two students from one town both did so well in the exams.
