MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Lieutenant-Colonel Virgie Julius, commander, KwaNonqaba Police Station:
It has been an exciting and interesting year for us in the most beautiful town, Mossel Bay.
There were so many developments and changes and we all had to adapt.
Unfortunately, with these changes the criminals also found new ways to commit crimes against our people.
I am happy to report that in the KwaNonqaba policing area we are fighting these trends with everything at our disposal.
Our community relations programmes are working well and it was because of these wonderful partnerships that we have seen a downward trend in crime in general.
As the KwaNonqaba Police management, we are proud of the efforts of our members and reservists and applaud the hard work by our community policing forum and neighbourhood watch structures.
However, we know that the challenges are not yet over. We cannot afford to become complacent and we will stand our ground with the help of the community.
We serve a very diverse community with different backgrounds and needs. Thus, we urge the community to be vigilant. Don't create opportunities for the criminals by displaying your valuables and avoid remote places.
I wish our matriculants all the best and urge parents to take responsibility for your children at the shopping centres, beaches and malls. Please drive carefully and remember we do not tolerate drunken driving.
Your lives are valuable and your safety and wellbeing is our priority.
Merry Christmas and have a prosperous, happy New Year.
