MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 34-year-old man appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Friday, 25 February, following his arrest for the illegal sale of liquor.
He was arrested on Thursday, 24 February, during a joint operation involving the sector commanders of the KwaNonqaba Police Station and the Crime Prevention Unit. The illegal shebeen where the arrest took place is in Marikana informal settlement.
At the time of the suspect's arrest, 135 litres of liquor were confiscated.
"Unlicensed shebeens are contributing to the high volume of violent crime in our service area, especially robberies. These establishments offer an opportunity to criminals to prey on unsuspecting victims," says Wo Kappie Kapp, spokesperson of the KwaNonqaba Police Station.
Kapp said the station would be sharpening its efforts to close down illegal shebeens.
