MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Detectives attached to the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences unit have ensured that a 63-year-old grandfather is behind bars in connection with the alleged rape of his granddaughter.
It is alleged that the man recently raped his 13-year-old granddaughter on three occasions while at his residence in Arum Drive, Mossel Bay. He also allegedly sexually assaulted the girl on Thursday, 23 November. The matter was reported to the police, after which the investigation commenced.
The suspect was arrested at his house in Mossel Bay on Sunday, 26 November, on charges of rape and sexual assault. He is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 28 November.
In an unrelated matter, the same members arrested a 22-year-old man on a charge of statutory rape following an alleged incident on Nzonza Street, Mossel Bay, earlier this year, where the girl was allegedly violated. The mother of the victim reported the matter to the police on Friday, 24 November.
The investigation into the matter led to the subsequent arrest of the suspect who is scheduled to appear in the local court on Monday, 27 November.

Investigators attached to the FCS units, who focus on sexual-related crimes and crimes against our most vulnerable, children, were assigned to thoroughly investigate these matters.
