GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS - The Garden Route and Central Karoo Health Districts are under the management of newly appointed District Director Vernon Zubhayr Brickles, known as Zee, who took office on 4 May.
He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, not only in the public sector (national and provincial) but also the private sector.
Brickles occupied positions such as QA and QI National Technical Lead for the BroadReach Healthcare Corporation and was the Group General Manager: Allmed Health Professionals and Head of Nursing/General Manager Nursing: Netcare South Africa as well as Director: Standards, Norms and Accreditation: National Department of Health.
With a strong background in quality assurance, his vision for both districts is to become the best performing districts nationally, in respect of the patients’ experience of care, standards compliance (quality, clinical and regulatory) and enabling an environment within which healthcare staff can practice their skills and professions, aligned with their vocation.
Brickles started his career as a professional nurse; later obtaining, among other qualifications, his M.Cur: Health Sciences; Research, B.Cur: Health Service Management et Health Science Education and Dip. Nursing (General, Psychiatry, Community Health) and Accoucheur.
He relocated from Cape Town and describes the Garden Route as a place with a breathtaking landscape and a dynamic team of dedicated civil servants who have the patients’ interests at heart.
‘People are generally very kind, friendly and helpful. I’ve heard good things about the districts before taking up this position and I have not been disappointed,’ he said.
Talking about COVID-19, Brickles said: ‘Entering office during the COVID-19 pandemic is no easy task but amazing work has already been done by the teams which makes settling in significantly easier.’
