MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay motorist (46) who was allegedly five times over the legal drinking limit was one of 44 people arrested in the Western Cape this past long weekend for drunken driving.
The province's traffic chief, Kenny Africa, said that up to Monday, 22 April a total of 735 motorists were tested for alcohol over the Easter long weekend.
He said the motorist was driving a Mercedes Benz and was stopped in Mossel Bay on Louis Fourie Road. The suspect had a blood alcohol reading of "1.30mg/100ml, five times over the legal limit".
The suspect appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 23 April on a charge of drunk driving and has been released pending the outcome of blood tests.
Africa said several other people were arrested for having false documents, for reckless and negligent driving and for excessive speed, including a motorist arrested at Laingsburg for driving 162km/h in a 120km/h zone.
