MOSSEL BAY NEWS - To mark Oral Health Month in September, the Alma Clinic and staff from the Mossel Bay provincial hospital maternity ward and Kangaroo Mother Care ward undertook a three-day outreach, visiting Aloe Daycare in Buisplaas.
Aloe Daycare is one of the creches in the district that has a "brushing programme" for the prevention of dental cavities.
The children's teeth are brushed every second day by the carer, Liezel Rhode, in Buisplaas.
Nuraan Leeman, the oral hygienist, and Verna Dirks, the dental assistant from Alma Clinic, brushed the children’s teeth and applied fluoride.
They also educated the children on oral health and the role of the toothbrush and toothpaste. Children were then given a dental gift and some fruit.
