MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) held a wellness day at the Langeberg Mall in Voorbaai, Mossel Bay, on Saturday, 24 October.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
CANSA representatives were stationed in what used to be the Edgars premises at the mall.
At a cost of only R30, there were prostrate cancer tests for men offered, which only require blood extraction by pricking the finger.
The tests indicate if there might be an infection or abnormality and the person is then referred to a doctor.
There was also breast screening in private cubicles by a nursing sister and Specsavers did screening for glaucoma.

The SA National Blood Service was present to take blood donations.
CANSA went to a great deal of trouble in bringing together the roleplayers for the wellness day. There were banners, posters and brochures prominently displayed. A representative from Cape Town, from the M Store was also present. The M Store supplies breast prostheses and special bras and items for women who have had mastectomies.
CANSA also hired a singer who entertained the shoppers at the mall and helped to draw them to the area where the wellness day was being held.
