MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A blockage at the pump station in Vlei Street for approximately eight hours on 12 and 13 October, resulted in a sewage spill.
Sewage entered the Bayview estuary via the storm water system.
The estuary is currently closed to prevent any health concerns. Boards will be erected indicating the closure.
The blockage at the pump station has since been cleared.
A clean-up of solids and bacteriological treatment of the affected area is ongoing.
Clean water is also being discharged into ethe stuary via the desalination plant.
Water samples will regularly be taken at nearby beaches and the situation will be monitored continuously.
