MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Local body stress release therapist Azana Mans was the speaker at the most recent meeting of the Mossel Bay Alzheimer's Support Group.
The meeting took place on 13 September at Santos Haven 1 in Heiderand.
It was the last meeting for the year. It was convened by the support group facilitator, Maria van Staden.
Azana explained that body stress release (BSR) therapy was developed on the premise of using the body as a highly sophisticated biofeedback system.
She said BSR practitioners interpreted the body's reflex response to accurately find certain sites of stored tension and muscle contraction.
Therapy involves a gentle, non-invasive and precise technique that stimulates the nervous system and activates the body's self-healing response.
"Clients often report that conditions they had not mentioned, had cleared up, such as constipation, heartburn and bladder problems," Azana asserted.
She said there were three types of stress:
- mechanical, which mainly concerns posture;
- emotional;
- and chemical stress, which could be caused by what you put on your skin or by the environment.
Body stress release provided relief from all three of these types of stress.
"We practitioners aim to give you a better quality of life, to get you off medicine and for you to avoid to need for medical procedures or operations," Azana told the Alzheimer's Support Group members.
"Although we are not doctors, we go the holistic way to give you a better quality of life.
"Conditions we treat include ADHD in children, bed wetting, migraines, spasms, pain in the body (such as neck and lower back) and anxiety.
"We even treat babies as old as three days who have had traumatic births. It's very gentle therapy."
Azana concluded: "I always tell people, 'Be the best you that you can be, because there is only one you.'''
