MOSSEL BAY NEWS - From their reaction during the self-defence demonstration, it was clear that the women attending Tuesday's session hosted by Mossel Bay's Child Care Forum found it interesting, educational, useful and above all empowering.
Instructors from Tiger Kai, Marulin Goodger and Deon Barnes, were invited by the forum to present self-defence techniques as part of their programme for the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children.
The group met at the Indoor Sports Centre.
The women responded well to Goodger's ability to fend off her "attacker", Barnes, and were heard chuckling more than once as Goodger, with her much slighter frame, brought Barnes to the floor in some of the demonstrations.
Barnes also explained to the women how to spot possible attackers and demonstrated several ways to use pepper spray effectively.
The Child Care Forum consists of SAPS, the Community Policing Forum, the Department of Social Development, the Heart-to-Heart Care Centre and Child Welfare.
