MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A well-known Mossel Bay local, Mike Metcalfe (66), passed away on Tuesday morning, 9 January.

Mike was the co-owner with Marius Erlank of Reflexions hair salon in Voorbaai for 25 years and after that an employee at Reflexions for a year.

This year, on 3 January, Mike took over the hair salon at Bardolino Retirement and Lifestyle Village in Dias.

Significant client base

Marius is also well known in town, having co-owned Reflexions with Mike. They built up a significant client base in Mossel Bay. Marius is also well known in business circles and is a member of the Mossel Bay Business Chamber.

He and Mike arrived in Mossel Bay from Johannesburg in 1997 and bought a small hair salon.

They owned Reflexions until November 2022, when they sold it and Mike stayed on as an employee of the salon for a few days a week.

New venture

Marius said Mike was extremely excited to start a new venture at Bardolino. He had been operating there for only a few days when he collapsed from a heart attack at 05:30 on Tuesday.

"Mike was in such a positive, good frame of mind, really happy to be starting a new project in the New Year, and to be doing what he enjoyed most. He simply loved doing hair. That was his passion."
