SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to inform the public of the commencement of periodic maintenance (resurfacing) of the N2 Section 4 between Riviersonderend and Swellendam with immediate effect.
The roadworks will span 56.9km.
The scope of this project entails the resurfacing of the N2 between the abovementioned extents, including the removal of the current surfacing through the town of Riviersonderend and replacing it with new hot mix asphalt.
Construction will, therefore, have an influence on traffic flow through town as well as access to properties and businesses situated along the main road in Riviersonderend.
The main road will be resurfaced intermittently between November and December 2017, and work will start again in January 2018.
Two-way traffic will be maintained during construction.
The eastbound carriageway will be closed off first, diverting all traffic to the westbound lane until completion of the surface, upon which the traffic will be diverted onto the newly surfaced eastbound carriageway.
Periodic road closures can be expected on the N2, where single-lane stop/go systems will be in place between the two towns, as resurfacing occurs.
Road users are requested to be vigilant and patient at all times, maintain the relevant speed limit and following distance and follow the directional signage throughout the construction area.
SANRAL apologies for any inconvenience caused.
