MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Tina Chebanga Mpofu of Mossel Bay taught herself how to bake by watching YouTube videos.
She started off baking cakes for her young sons in 2019. Then in 2020 during the hard lockdown, Tina was so bored she threw herself into baking with zeal, experimenting with all types of cakes and decorations.
"I baked my way out of the lockdown blues," she laughs.
In the process, she discovered she had a love and passion for baking. She is in another world, concentrating deeply when she is making a cake. "Don't talk to me; I won't answer!" she exclaims.

And this is someone who studied accounting and used to do book keeping.
Tina says she tried different recipes in order to perfect her cakes, so they are moist and soft, and taste as good as they look. She bakes vanilla, chocolate, red velvet and carrot cakes. She also tried different icing recipes and still experiments, to get the best results.
Tina never thought of baking for others. A friend asked her to bake a cake for an occasion and Tina replied: "No, I don't bake for other people, only my family."
But the friend managed to persuade her and now Tina bakes cakes for all types of occasions: birthdays, baby dedications, first communions, anniversaries, Valentine's Day, Mother's and Father's days, you name it.
