KLEIN BRAK RIVER NEWS AND VIDEO - The arrival of a mechanical digger on the Klein Brak River beach early this morning was cause for excitement, and many residents braved the wind and rainy weather to watch the progress on a preparatory channel being dug.

Mossel Bay Municipality submitted an application to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning for a Directive in terms of Section 30A of the National Environmental Management Act. 

The Directive authorized the excavation of a preparatory channel and will allow the municipality to breach the estuary if water levels get to two meters above sea level. 

The preparatory channel aims to reduce the amount of time needed to do a breach should it be required, given that rain is forecast for the next few days or so.
