MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A case of assault, and assault to do grievous bodily harm, has been opened against a volunteer working in the Victim Support Facility at the KwaNonqaba police station.
This follows an altercation between a female police officer and the male suspect on 19 August.
According to information, the police woman and the suspect were involved in an argument in the charge office of the KwaNonqaba police station while members of the public allegedly watched on.
It is believed that the volunteer worker assaulted the police woman with a sharp object.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser confidentially learned that the victim had to obtain stitches to the wound.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie confirmed the incident and said that the volunteer has been temporarily placed at a neighbouring police station, pending the investigation.
“The person has also got current clients that are in his trust and he needs to further assist and complete his supporting role. However, he has been formally charged with assault to do grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate court, on Wednesday 26 August.”
Pojie says the management of the police station strongly condemns the incident and welcomes the ongoing investigations.
The volunteer worker in return has opened a case of assault against the police woman. This will be investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
