GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Oceans Research Foundation has been making waves of positive change in the lives of young people.
This is through its Sea The Change programme, which is supported by generous local sponsorship.
The Oceans Research Foundation is providing an opportunity to sixty underprivileged young women in Mossel Bay to participate in the Sea The Change young women programme.
"Local Isuzu dealership, CP Nel Motors and Isuzu Child Life have partnered with the foundation to roll out this project. Participants will be selected based on a series of tasks they will complete, " says Sophumelela Qoma, the outreach officer at Oceans Research.
The participants will be given the opportunity to complete a Level 1 First Aid certification course. From these participants, eight will be selected for lifeguard training, six for pre-sea induction qualifications, and finally two will be chosen to do a skipper's licence course.
"Qualities we are looking for are commitment, enthusiasm, energy and a good attitude, adaptability and willingness to learn."
Only candidates in Grade 11 this year will be considered. "We are reaching out to those from underprivileged backgrounds, residing in Mossel Bay and interested in conservation."
Applications, available from 12 February, are at the Thusong Centre in KwaNonqaba. They are titled, Employability and Leadership Skills Development Programme. Applications close on and must be handed in on 19 February, at 12:00.
