MOSSEL BAY NEWS - David Stellenberg, the newly appointed gaming manager at the Garden Route Casino, is everything but a new kid on the block, despite his youthful appearance.
David moved to the Garden Route Casino this year after having been the VIP services manager and deputy slots manager at Montecasino, Johannesburg, where he started his career in the gaming industry in 1998.
During his career, there were quite a few notable moments. One of the most memorable was being delegated to be a representative in the United Kingdom to host the Duke of Edinburgh Charity Initiative. Here, he met a member of the royal family, Prince Edward, in person, a privilege not bestowed on many.
But to him, personal achievements are not only about the glitz and glamour. He established a non-governmental organisation with a few like-minded people and celebrates the day he was part of handing over a cheque of more than R300 000 to a worthy beneficiary.
David believes the best impression he can make is by just being himself and showing great humility. "It's all about how you make a person feel and react once you have crossed their path." He rates his interpersonal skills highly and believes in establishing sound business relationships.
Over the years, he has developed the habit of never judging a book by its cover. This is probably also why he is continuing his studies in the field of Applied Psychology, specifically in business and human resource management.
"What I love about my job is the mere fact that it has exposed me to a myriad wonderful and yes, very weird experiences. I have met individuals from all walks of life. It has taught me to be humble and that the dynamics between people can make or break you if you don't embrace and learn from diversity."
He is very excited about his new position as gaming manager at the Garden Route Casino.
"I am excited to continue growing and in the process, to be an asset to the Garden Route Casino. I want to focus on how to create future leaders in the industry."
David is married and has three children – two sons, one in college and the other in high school and a daughter attending primary school.
