MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The police Garden Route district commissioner, Major-General Katishi Norman Modishana, and his entourage of senior officers from the Garden Route district hosted a community imbizo on Friday, 9 June, in the KwaNonqaba Community Hall in Mayixhale Street, Mossel Bay.
The coordinators and facilitators of the important question and answer session, the KwaNonqaba Police local organising committee (LOC), under the guidance of their station commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Virgie Julius, worked tirelessly to raise awareness and to mobilise the community to attend the event, police spokesperson WO Kappie Kapp said.

Stakeholders including the departments of Correctional Services, Social Development, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Home Affairs attended.
Also present were Mossel Bay Municipality Safety portfolio chairman Leon Van Dyk; Heinrich Hartnick, the Route District CPF chair; non-governmental organisations (NGOs); non-profit organisations (NPOs) and the Mossel Bay Community Soup Drive, to name a few.
The community braved the cold weather and came in numbers to the venue, Kapp said.
The Mossel Bay Community Soup Drive provided soup.
During the question and answer session, communities voiced their concern about crime and the general conduct of police officers.
Some questions were directed to Correctional Services and Home affairs.
The panel, under the leadership of Major-General Modishana, responded with respect towards community members. It became more and more apparent that all involved have one common goal: ensuring a safe and secure environment for the KwaNonqaba community.
Community members showed their commitment by making suggestions on fighting crime and presented possible solutions to the crime problem.
Modishana said corruption, misuse of state resources and lack of service delivery by police would not be tolerated and that the community should hold officials accountable to their constitutional duty. He assured that more of these engagements would follow, to make KwaNonqaba a safe place.
