MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Police who went to arrest a man in Willowmore Street, Asla Park, on a warrant of arrest unwittingly walked into a scene of domestic violence.
It transpired that the father of a three-month-old baby girl apparently assaulted the child's mother while the mother was breastfeeding the infant. In the process, it seems, one of the blows aimed at the mother struck the baby, resulting in facial injuries.
Moments later, members of the KwaNonqaba Police Station arrived to execute the warrant of arrest on charges of attempted murder.
One of the officers noticed blood on the woman's clothing and a little blood on the baby's nose.
The mother, however, apparently indicated it was nothing to worry about.
After the police left the house, a neighbour called the police station to request assistance as the baby developed difficulty breathing.
The police returned to the house, whereafter the baby was taken to the Mossel Bay Provincial hospital at approximately 22:50 on 1 September, where it was found that the child had suffered a broken nose.
The infant was then transferred to the George Provincial Hospital.
At the time of going to press the condition of the baby could not be confirmed.
The KwaNonqaba police are investigating a case of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
