Edward Jantjies, director of Corporate Services at the municipality, was awarded the Gender-Based Violence award for the No More Victims Summit 2013.
Alma Kritzinger, the municipality’s disability, gender, elderly and HIV/AIDS officer, received the Leadership award and was also runner-up in the category Centre of Excellence Institutional.
Haylene Claassen was awarded the Climate Change award for the municipality’s Swop Shop project and Jenny Kiewit was runner-up in the categories Training and Education.
A total of 62 participants from all over South Africa entered the summit. Award winners will now compete internationally against other African countries

The first South Africa Gender Links summit, hosted in Johannesburg from 23-25 April, saw officials from the Mossel Bay Municipality being rewarded for their efforts addressing gender-based issues.
