A total of 17 birds are currently being rehabilitated at the centre in Mossdustria. Even an oil-covered Agama lizard was brought to Carol Walton to be washed! A very sick Penguin was brought in about a month ago and was diagnosed with Aspergillus by Dr Frans de Graaff.
He has recovered remarkably well. The volunteers had to wear safety clothing when they worked with him.
Although there were a lot of positive feedback after the plight of the centre was broadcast on SABC News, the amount of birds that are being rehabilitated at the centre is costing a fortune, especially the cost of their staple diet, which is fish, as well as very expensive medication.
SAPREC therefore pleads with local residents, as well as businesses to please offer help in any way possible. SAPREC has obtained the new Snapscan mobile payment app, which allows people to make a payment via their smartphones through a combination of a QR code and a PIN. The barcode is attached to this article.
SAPREC would like to take this opportunity to thank FantaSea @ the Point for their much-needed contribution. For every ice cream that is sold at FantaSea, a portion is donated to SAPREC. They have also started a Penguin Club. A collection box is at the till point, where donations can be made. They will also stock the very popular SAPREC mugs soon.
Please be on the lookout for stranded penguins, as well as other seabirds in distress. For help with stranded animals or more information on SAPREC, Carol Walton can be contacted on 082 364 3382.
