MOSSEL BAY NEWS - At a follow-up meeting with the residents of Walvis Street in JCC Camp, the municipal executive explained the likely delays in the provision of housing intended for them.
The community was informed of possible delays in the commencement of the work. These are due to strict national and provincial legislative prescripts and requirements, as well as the internal processes as regulated by the supply chain management rules.
The community members expressed their frustration, yet were happy to personally meet the municipal chief financial officer, Dawood Asmal.
Meanwhile the Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Service has supplied the dwellings with smoke detectors to assist the community members with their safety concerns. Other concerns raised, such as lighting, were also addressed.
"It is important for the municipality to keep the community informed of the processes being followed. We thank the residents for their understanding and kind cooperation," municipal spokesperson Colin Puren said. He added that the municipality would do all in its power to ensure the contractors for the work were appointed as soon as possible.
