MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay residents and other South Africans are trying to help the family of teacher and Mossel Bay resident Lusanda Sixaxeni (27), who passed away in China on 12 September, to raise enough money to bring her body back home.
Lusanda's family live in KwaNonqaba and made it known about their struggle to repatriate the body due to costs which amount to about R400 000.
If they are unable to bring Sixaxeni's body home, she will have to be cremated, which is against the family's cultural beliefs.
Lusanda was a former Point High School learner. The cause of her death is not yet known.
This week Lusanda's mother, Nomonde Sixaxeni, told the Mossel Bay Advertiser the family had raised more than R365 000.
Local social clubs, KwaNonqaba Royals VDub Club and Intombi Ezilishumi, had a carwash fundraising event on Saturday, 1 October. The Codeta Taxi Association and Uncedo Taxi Association, among others, also helped the family with funds.
"We are hoping to get enough money soon so that Lusanda can be buried," Nomonde said.
