MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Police have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery that took place on George Road in Mossel Bay earlier today, 27 August.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a 24-year-old man was walking along the road and was approached by a group of men.
One of the suspects allegedly had a firearm and threatened the victim before robbing him of his cellphone, ID card, fishing licence, cash, and an Adidas backpack.
The group then fled the scene.
Southern Cape Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies said that after the robbery was reported, a joint operation was swiftly launched. Members from the Mossel Bay Sea Border, Mossel Bay, Da Gamaskop, and KwaNonqaba police stations combined forces and successfully traced two suspects to Petersen Street in D'Almeida.
The men, aged 32 and 40 years old, were arrested and are currently in police custody.
Spies said they are set to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court once they have been formally charged.
Mossel Bay police management commended the station's officers and those from neighbouring stations for their rapid response and teamwork in apprehending the suspects. Investigations are ongoing and further arrests could be made.
