Scott Jonathan Thomson, resident, smallholder, chairperson of the Great Brak River Conservancy, ex-chef.
How long have you lived in the Mossel Bay area?
Twelve years.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Life and the environment, cooking, painting and writing.
What is something about you that people might not know?
I collect ceramic and glass pie crows, pie birds and pie vents (a pie bird or vent is a hollow device used to support or vent pies).
Who or what has had the biggest influence on your life?
Those whom I call my family.
What are you most proud of in your life?
Not giving up.
What is something you would still like to achieve or do?
Write a book and have an 8-pax restaurant with only locally sourced ingredients featured within a set tasting menu.
If you could invite anyone in the world for coffee, who would it be and why?
I'll have honeybush tea instead, thank you, and I'll have it with my lady.
What is one thing you would like to say to the people of Mossel Bay?
Conservation starts at home and in small daily gestures; the quality of this shared environment in which we live is directly expressed in how much we know about it, what we do with that knowledge and if we choose to pass it on.
