MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - History was made on Saturday when the Mossel Bay Taxi Association (MOBTA) became affiliated to the Codeta Taxi Association.
With scores of taxi owners and drivers present, MOBTA celebrated the fact that their taxis will be allowed to ferry passengers from Mossel Bay to Khayelitsha legally now.
Once in Cape Town, the passengers will link with other affiliated taxi associations for transport across the Peninsula.
"Previously MOBTA was affiliated to CATA, but this prevented us from legally transporting passengers to Cape Town. Today we have launched Codeta in Mossel Bay. MOBTA will from now on be able to use its approximately 125 taxis to transport passengers along the route to Cape Town," Mr Dzanama Botomani, chairman of MOBTA said.
The occasion was joyous, with several taxi operators from as far afield as Nyanga, Langa and Gugulethu joining in the celebrations at the Imekhaya Primary School Hall.
DA Councillors Julia Siyoko and Thabo Mvumvu welcomed the initiative, saying the affiliation will afford local residents more legal transport options for getting to Cape Town and back.
