GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - About 15km from Great Brak River and at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains, lies Friemersheim.
It is a rustic village where life seems to stand still.
Originally a mission station, today it forms part of the scenic Fragrance Route. There is an Fragrance Route Festival each year in February.
It was in Friemersheim where the well-known Volkwyn chair was made and today the Volkwyn family still plays a vital role in the community.
The plantations surrounding the village are home to many indigenous forest birds. The magnificent views from the settlement over Gonnakraal and right down to the ocean are spectacular.
Take a drive through the village and experience the warm-hearted residents going about their normal daily routine. Visit the Dutch Reformed church and the lavender nursery.
Enjoy the circle route that will take you through game farms, where zebra and antelope can be seen from the gravel road.
Visit the Protea farm and stop to have a cup of coffee at one of the home stalls.
