Districts meet on Thusong Centre service roll-out

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Western Cape Department of Local Government hosted its district planning meeting regarding integrated service delivery to the community within the Garden Route and Central Karoo municipalities this week in Mossel Bay.

The meeting was coordinated by the department's Service Delivery Integration Section.

With Mossel Bay hosting the event on Tuesday, 12 April, director of Community Services at the Mossel Bay Municipality, Elize Nel, welcomed the delegates in her official opening address.

"In Mossel Bay, we like to say we are the best in the country, but that certainly does not mean that we know everything and cannot learn about best practice from our colleagues in other municipalities.

"We are looking forward to the sessions today and to seeing how the outcome can be taken forward in practice, to take our Thusong Centres forward in leaps and bounds," Nel said.

In presenting the agenda, Ntombi Mbadlanyana from the Department of Local Goverment urged the representatives to actively interact and join an open platform.

"We have the agenda, but I want us to have an active conversation today."

Topics on the agenda included:

The review of the Thusong Outreach project implemented during 2021/2022.
A discussion of the Thusong Outreach implemen-tation and geographical coverage for services within the Garden Route and Central Karoo district municipalities.
Feedback on the Covid-19 vaccination plan exit strategy and its roll-out per district.
A progressive update on economic projects involving the Thusong Centres.
Newly-established Thusong satellite service sites in the Garden Route and Central Karoo.
Sharing of the PSEG (Public Service Employment Grant) and JDMA (Joint District and Metro Approach) implemented in the Garden Route District Municipality.
