MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay municipal council Speaker Venolea Fortuin and the first lady of Mossel Bay, the Mayor's wife, Riëtte Kotze, will be hosting the first (ladies only) I am Iconic gala evening on Saturday, 25 February, to raise funds for The Mayoral Relief and Charitable Fund.
The fund is used for various deserving causes, such as young people who are chosen to represent their school at provincial level in sport, but who cannot afford necessities and travelling costs, instances where shacks have burnt down and a family is left destitute and for NGOs which require assistance with projects to uplift the community.
The fund is administered by the municipality and according to best financial practice in this regard, ratepayers’ money may not be used.
The mayor is, therefore, completely reliant on fundraising and donations from the private sector for this purpose, the municipality noted in a statement.
The municipality has organised several fundraising activities over the years, such as the Mayoral Golf Day, and this I am Iconic gala evening is in continuance of this practice.
The municipality appeals to women and businesses to buy tickets at R500 per person to support this worthy cause. There will be "a three-course meal, entertainment, dancing and lots of laughter at the beautiful Diaz Hotel".
