MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two Mossel Bay women were lauded at a function of the South African Council for Business Women local branch on Tuesday, 21 September.
In an election process which included five independent judges, humanitarian Denise Lloyd was selected as the Mossel Bay Warrior Woman and Marlene Smuts of Harmony Distillery in Hartenbos was selected as the Business Woman of the Year and Ambassador of Mossel Bay.
Both women will compete in the Council for Business Women national competition. The national final is on 22 October.
The runner-up in the Business Woman category, Charlotte Oberholzer, who was a committee member of the local Council for Business Women, passed away only a few days before the function, from Covid-19.
Oberholzer was the owner of Zelexa Beauty Spa in Mossel Bay. Her sister accepted her trophy on her behalf.
Contributes greatly
The Warrior Woman award goes to a member of the community who has proved herself as someone who contributes greatly to the community and to worthy causes.
Lloyd received the award as recognition for her involvement in about nine organisations, including the SPCA, Friends of the Museum, CANSA and Pink Trees for Pauline. Lloyd is also a municipal ward councillor.
Lorette Grobbelaar, founder and chair of the Mossel Bay branch of the SA Council for Business Women, said: "The Business Woman award is presented to a woman whose business has shown fast growth or exceptional success."
There were five finalists in the Warrior Woman category and six in the Business Woman category.
The national finals on 22 October will be a virtual function and screened locally at the Diaz Hotel from 12:00 to 14:00.
