For the past 11 years Tekkie Town and New Balance have helped raise money for Station 15, Mossel Bay. This year's event, a sociable barbeque, was hosted at Tekkie Town's Head Office with New Balance and NSRI members and special guest Ashwin Willemse also attending.
NSRI began in 1967 as a humanitarian service and now includes 92 rescue boats of various sizes and 27 4×4 rescue vehicles. The annual running cost of R25-million is made up from donations, bequests and sponsorships and the volunteers save the organisation a salary bill of over R250m each year. Since its inception, Sea Rescue has carried out over 15 000 operations, rescued 26 732 people and helped 7 431 boats in distress.
Dawie Zwiegelaar, Station Commander of the NSRI, stated: "I want to give everyone that attended the function a huge thank you for a lovely evening. We all felt so privileged to be associated with two great companies i.e. Tekkie Town and New Balance. We appreciate everything that the fantastic personnel of Tekkie Town did. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and off course on top of everything, the fantastic donation of R40 000."
Over the past decade, New Balance has grown substantially. They attribute this success to their ongoing commitment to integrity, teamwork, and total customer satisfaction; performance and fit over fashion; investment in domestic manufacturing; and technological innovation.
Mike Farrer from New Balance expressed his gratitude to NSRI saying "We are really grateful for the fantastic work these guys do 24/7… 365 days of the year…year in and year out. They go out in conditions that normal people wouldn't dare to. These are special people that put their own lives at risk to save others, every time they go out. They are living legends… every one of them. We can never say thank you enough."
Michael Brown, General Manager of Tekkie Town commented "After 11 years we still feel very privileged to be involved in such good cause. Thank you to the NSRI and New Balance for the great work and support, we hope our partnership extends well into the future."
