BUSINESS NEWS - A groundbreaking breast cancer symposium in Mossel Bay brought together top specialists and cutting-edge technology, setting a new standard for cancer care in the Garden Route. Led by renowned breast cancer expert Prof Carol-Ann Benn and the Breast Cancer Centre of Excellence (BCCE) team, the event was organised by Eden Oncology with crucial support from Life Bay View Hospital.
The two-day symposium showcased the power of multidisciplinary collaboration in breast cancer treatment. Benn joined the Life Bay View multidisciplinary team meeting, where local surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and pathologists shared insights on complex cancer cases.
One of the most notable moments was a live-streamed breast surgery demonstrating advanced techniques such as intraoperative pathology and the use of Magseeds® and Magtrace®.
Dr Lee-Ann Jones of Eden Oncology emphasised the importance of this collaborative approach. "We aim to ensure that each patient receives personalised, world-class care by leveraging the expertise of a multidisciplinary team," she said. This approach prevents reliance on a single opinion and fosters more comprehensive treatment decisions.
The event was attended by over 35 specialists from the Garden Route with further online attendees, solidifying the event's educational impact.
The symposium not only enhanced medical knowledge but also built a stronger community of specialists within the Garden Route. Jones noted the enthusiasm generated by the event and confirmed Eden Oncology's plans to make the symposium an annual occurrence.
By staying aligned with international advancements in breast cancer treatment, the event promises to continue providing exceptional care for patients in the region, ensuring they have access to the latest innovations close to home.
