MOSSEL BAY BUSINESS NEWS - The Ruta Sechaba Foundation was established in 2016 to provide scholarships to qualifying learners at Curro schools.

The PSG Group and BEE Education Trust was the initial donor of the Foundation. The aim of the trust is to provide monitored financial support for education purposes to black South African citizens.

The scholarship will be for the 2019 academic year. It is also targeted at dependents of Capitec Bank employees studying at Curro schools. It is for new and existing learners to these schools. Capitec Bank will initially contribute R1 million (one million Rands) towards the Ruta Sechaba Foundation.

A reminder of the key criteria:

Black learners only (Black means African, Coloured, Indian people as defined by the BB-BEE Act);
Only learners that are South African citizens are eligible;
Learners are to attain an overall aggregate of 60% or above and attain at least 60% in Mathematics and 60% in English in their 2018 June examination academic report.
Permanently employed Capitec Bank employees are eligible to apply for their dependent;
The scholarship is applicable to learners in Grades 8-11 attaining an overall aggregate of 60% or above in the 2018 June exam academic report;
To be eligible for the scholarship a clear financial need must be demonstrated and the minimum qualifying criteria is a combined household income not exceeding R30 000 per month.

The scholarship includes school fees (up to the percentage scholarship allocation); tablet costs (but not the cost of a tablet) and facility fees.

The scholarship excludes the cost of purchasing a tablet, the cost of uniforms, transport to and from school and any other sundry fees (e.g. sports equipment, cost of class/grade excursions

The scholarship will be awarded for 2019 only, but may be renewed going forward subject to you continuing to meet the minimum scholarship requirements.

The PSG Group BEE Education Trust has identified the Ruta Sechaba Foundation and Curro as its key partner, in education, to assist it in achieving the objective of quality, affordable education.
