MOSSEL BAY BUSINESS NEWS AND VIDEO - Despite the odds being against them for smooth sailing in their matric year, the class of 2020 at Curro Mossel Bay scored a pass rate of 100%.
The school boasts this accomplishment for the sixth consecutive year, following the release of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam results last Friday, 19 February.
In addition, the matric class attained a 100% tertiary pass to study further at a higher education institution.
The IEB National Senior Certificate (NSC) is internationally recognised.
Besides the 36 learners achieving 100% tertiary exemption, four candidates - Elné Spies, Dané Prins, Janco Breedt and Brenda-Bianca Botha - achieved A aggregates.
Three learners scored among the top one percent of IEB results nationwide by obtaining their various subject distinctions.
- Dané Prins for Afrikaans First Additional Language as well as Computer Application Technology
- Brenda-Bianca Botha for Mathematical Literacy
- Amber Landman for Mathematical Literacy.
"Since Curro Mossel Bay learners started writing the IEB examination in 2015, we have had a 100% pass rate. This outstanding performance of learners and teachers is what makes Curro Mossel Bay the school of choice in our area and community. We are proud of each learner," said Brian O'Neil, executive head at Curro Mossel Bay.
The school made a successful move to remote learning in 2020, owing to Covid-19.

O'Neil believes it was Curro Mossel Bay's quick transition to this platform during the initial lockdown that helped secure 2020's academic success.
"The last academic year posed great uncertainty, but none of the year's challenges were greater than a full move towards the virtual classroom in your final school year.
"Our teachers and staff must be commended for the professionalism and dedication shown regarding our remote learning strategy. Without everyone's commitment and our parents' unwavering support, we simply would not have been able to show this level of academic success," O'Neil concluded.
The school's academic year started on 13 January and since then, it has offered uninterrupted schooling, thanks to the tried and tested remote learning strategy.
Curro Mossel Bay is hosting its open day on 3 March from 12:00 to 18:00. For more information, contact Michelle van der Westhuizen (071 671 0123 or michelle.v01@curro.co.za).
