Three armed agents reportedly raided the vessel on which the Real Madrid player has been holidaying, near the Spanish island with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, his newborn twins, mother, Maria Delores, and other members of his family.
According to editors at Spanish website Hola.com, Cristiano, 32, was returning to the yacht after dining at a restaurant on the Balearic island with Georgina at the time of the raid.
The search reportedly lasted around 90 minutes, with a member of the Portuguese soccer star’s family speaking to the tax officers and providing them with the documentation they required.
“It formed part of routine checks on vessels that are carried out every summer in different parts of Spain including the Balearic Islands,” the official revealed. “It doesn’t affect the users of the vessels but their owners or the charter firms if they are rented out.
“These inspections involve the requesting of different documentation for the purpose of varying fiscal checks, especially regarding the possibility that the exemption on registration tax is incorrectly applied.”
Cristiano is accused by Spanish tax agency officials of defrauding it out of $16.7 million (R220 million) by diverting funds to accounts in the Virgin Islands. News of the investigation sparked rumours that the player would leave Real Madrid, the club he has played for since 2009.
