GEORGE NEWS - Songwriter, singer and pianist Coenie de Villiers performed in Mossel Bay on 25 November and had the audience eating out of his hand in what he called his Christmas concert.
Although it had not been billed as such prior to the show, he sang a few Christmas carols. But the highlights of the show were De Villiers' original songs with their beautiful, poetic lyrics, many of which describe South African nature and wildlife.
These, together with his excellence on the piano, make De Villiers' performances a hit and they are well attended in Mossel Bay.
Karoonag, Namakwaland and Solly en Ma went down a treat.
Songwriting and piano playing of this high calibre cannot be taken for granted. The performance in the Bravo Lounge, Garden Route Casino, was an absolute delight.
De Villiers' red piano contributed to the Christmas atmosphere. It was good to see senior citizens in the audience. They also need to get out and enjoy culture. Artists who appeal to seniors play a special role in society.
De Villiers urged people to be especially nice to one another at Christmas time, which was when family arguments tended to happen.
