MOSSEL BAY SAILING NEWS - This month the Skipper Foundation, Mossel Bay's sailing school, took another huge step forward.
The Andrew Simpson Foundation, a world-renowned sailing charity, decided to take the Skipper Foundation under its wing.
The following announcement was made: "We are excited to introduce our new Andrew Simpson Centre and community sailing programme in Mossel Bay, South Africa. This centre will solely deliver the skipper programme."
The Andrew Simpson Foundation is looking at expanding its centres network to grow its UK and international impact and increase the numbers it is working with on an annual basis to 50 000 people by 2025. Mossel Bay will be part of making this dream a reality.
Mossel Bay's Elfie Holden, the senior instructor of the Skipper Foundation, said: "After 13 years of sailing training, this year brought its own new challenges but the Skipper Foundation continued its programme through this difficult time.
"It is a big accolade to be recognised and included in the Andrew Simpson Foundation Programmes. This will have a major, positive impact on our sailors and for those to come in the future.
"The Skipper Foundation had the privilege of sending six of its sailors to world championships in the Netherlands and Sweden this year.
"It also won the Junior Inter Club Championships in Wilderness. The foundation hopes to qualify some of its more experienced sailors as dinghy instructors soon," Holden said. Holden coaches sailors of school-going age in sailing.
