MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - The Mossel Bay Lifesaving Club held its annual Nippers' Championships on Sunday, 18 March at Dias Beach. The Nippers are aged 13 and under.
The Nippers did sprints, flag events, swims, run-swim-run events and board events.
Besides being good practice for the Nippers who are competing in the SA Lifesaving National Championships in Port Elizabeth from 1 April, the children also had great fun.
It was beneficial for them to compete against one another in the structured formats characteristic of the national championships.

A group of children from KwaNonqaba who had come to watch the action were given the opportunity to take part. The MBSLC, which is a non-profit company, has the motto: "No Nipper will be turned away."
The club often includes any children who are keen to participate in its practices at Dias Beach and does its best to raise money to sponsor Nippers whose parents cannot afford the money for their children to take part.
If you would like to sponsor the Nippers going to the national championships, call the MBSLC secretary, Kotie Bosman (071 866 3062). Sponsorships are tax exempt.

Nippers is all about having confidence in the sea, but still respecting it, getting fit on the beach. learning to be a lifeguard and / or learning lifesaving as a sport. It is excellent in striving to combat the effects of the sedentary lifestyles children have today.
For a small club compared with other surf lifesaving clubs in South Africa, MBSLC does extremely well at the champs each year, bringing back medals.
