RUGBY NEWS - Sedgefield Eagle Stars continued their positive start to the 2023 club rugby season, with their first team emerging victorious against Silver Stars last weekend.
This while Jaguars lost out to Evergreens and Knysna United were downed by Albertinia Rangers.
After all three clubs were treated to home fixtures to kick off their 2023 season of SWD Rugby club rugby two weeks ago, last week they were all faced with the unenviable task of taking to the road.
None of their fixtures were easy, either. In the SWD Super League A, Jaguars travelled to Pacaltsdorp to take on Evergreens. In SWD First Division A, Knysna United made the long trek to Albertinia where they faced Albertinia Rangers, while it was a battle of the stars in Rosemoor, George, where Eagle Stars and Silver Stars faced off.
Having made the trip from Plettenberg Bay to George, Jaguars' third team was in action first against Evergreens and it was the dream start for the home outfit. Evergreens C white-washed their opponents, winning 30-0. Jaguars B were able to improve on their colleagues' performance, but only marginally, as they lost 34-6.
With all of the visiting hopes on their shoulders, Jaguars A took to the field last, but suffered the same fate as the others.
A spirited performance saw them notch up three tries, but Evergreens were just too strong and the Pacaltsdorp outfit won 38-21.

All the way over in Albertinia, 95km further west, Knysna United were up against Albertinia Rangers - who are always a formidable opponent, whether away or at home. The second teams were up first and as was the case 95km away, it was an ideal start for the home side.
Two tries weren't enough for the men from Knysna, and Albertinia Rangers won the encounter 20-12. Things didn't get any better for Knysna United in the first-team clash though, as Albertinia Rangers ran amok, winning the match 46-17.
Turning back to George, Eagle Stars were up against Silver Stars in Rosemoor. Continuing the trend seen elsewhere, their second team couldn't overcome their hosts, and Silver Stars won the game 25-10.
However, the first-team match was somewhat different, as Eagle Stars overturned a seven-point half-time deficit, scoring 17 points in the second half to win the nail-biting clash 17-13.
This weekend Jaguars host Heidelberg in the Crags, Eagle Stars welcome Thistles to Smutsville and Knysna United face Harlequins at Loerie Park in Knysna.
