Update
HARTENBOS NEWS - The spirit and legacy of late rally founder André van der Nest were honoured in inspiring fashion, yesterday on Saturday 11 April as the newly renamed André van der Nest Blind Navigators Rally took to the roads of the greater Mossel Bay area.
The event, marking one year since Van der Nest’s passing, brought together 28 blind navigators and their seeing drivers.
Hosted by the St Blaize Lions Club and the St Blaize Leos, the rally once again started at Hart & Bosch Village, drawing spectators eager to witness the remarkable collaboration between navigators and drivers.
Gareth Calder (driver) and Johan Botha (navigator) walked away as the winners for the day.
The route changes every year and is usually between 80 and 90km. Teams must also adhere to specific speed limits - not too fast, but not too slow either - or risk losing points.
After a competitive day on the road, the team of driver Gareth Calder and navigator Johan Botha emerged as the winners
