Nathan van der Nest and Reeza Alexander shone brightest on the second day of the CSA Under-13 Week in Johannesburg as Northern Cape recorded one of two outright victories.
Although Van der Nest fell one run short of a century, he added 110 for the seventh wicket with Willem Badenhorst (68) as Northern Cape made 250/9 declared against Zimbabwe.
Alexander, an off-spinner, went on to take 6/30 as the Zimbabweans were bowled out for 94 in reply, followed by 3/21 as Zimbabwe were reduced to 40/5 in their second innings.
The other game with an outright result saw Easterns beat KwaZulu-Natal by eight wickets.
Kaylan Archary led the way with his 5/26, which knocked KZN over for 123 after they had won the toss and elected to bat.
Although Easterns only just surpassed that total by making 139 in reply, with Joshua Stocks taking 5/36, KZN managed 78/2 in the time allowed for their second innings to set a target of 63, which Easterns achieved.
With inclement weather around, many of the games lost valuable time, with Free State drawing with Northerns and Eastern Province just holding out for a draw with North West.
However, four sides managed to win on first innings, with Western Province beating Mpumalanga, Gauteng getting the better of Border, Boland beating Kwazulu-Natal Inland and Khaif Patel’s 6/36 helping Limpopo to beat South Western Districts.
