SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Jean du Plessis of South Western Districts produced a sound performance for South Africa during the ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand.
The Cup took place from 13 January to 3 February.
Du Plessis, a former learner at Glenwood House in George, who made his senior debut for SWD as a 17-year old, played the last four of South Africa's six matches and ended with a healthy batting average of 39.0.
His top score was 54 (from 54 balls), which he hit in the pool match against New Zealand. He also took two magnificent slip catches in the play-off match for the fifth place against Bangladesh, a match South Africa won by eight wickets.
Du Plessis is a second-year B Accounting student at the Nelson Mandela University (George Campus). He will be available for selection for the SWD senior team for their remaining matches of the 2017/18 season.
