MOSSEL BAY ATHLETICS NEWS - Children in the Hartenbos Worper Akademie have done extremely well over the past athletics season.
There are 22 athletes in the academy, which offers training in shotput, hammer throwing and discus.
The children compete at district level, against other districts in the Southern Cape in order to make the Eden team and if they make that team, they compete at Western Cape level.
From there, they compete nationally.
Six athletes from the academy are competing at national level.
One of the children in the academy, Miike Scholtz - U13, has achieved her national colours and has been selected to compete in the SA Cossasa Games in May.
The academy is owned by Marilize Coetzee. Coetzee also coaches her daughter, Mieke Coetzee, who attends Point High School. At the Western Cape schools' meeting, Mieke achieved fourth place and she went on to the SA championships and attained two fourth places.
At the Point, Outeniqua, Oudtshoorn and Langenhoven high schools' meeting this year Mieke was the best U15 girl athlete and she won best overall girl athlete.
The following is the full list of those from the academy who are competing nationally: Mieke Coetzee, Miike Scholtz, Elizka le Grange, Juann Muller, Johandre Posthimus and Louis Fourie.
These athletes in the academy placed well in competitions over the past season: Maria Wolfaard, Mila Smit, Aiden Erasmus, JD van Wyk, Mieke Botha, Ewann Botha, Dormari Carstens, Leandi Bronkhorst, Milan Joubert, Nicky Grobler and Luan Vorster.
