MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Having worked in close contact with older persons in Mossel Bay specifically, interior designer Sarita Olivier saw a need for them to earn an additional income.
Sarita formerly acted as chairperson of the board at ACVV Seebries homes, Ons Huis and Onse Rus, and still serves as a board member.
"Although this is a stark reality to deal with, the real truth of the matter is that our older persons are not welcomed into the job market."
But as opposed to accept this state of affairs, it motivated Sarita to make a plan.
"We have decided to develop an organisation In House Property Care, that will specifically employ older persons (over 50 and upwards)."
With the motto 'We will care when you're not there', the services on offer includes:
- Open windows and air the property;
- Empty the mailbox;
- Inspect, assess and report on the status of the property to ensure that faults can be identified and corrected, before it becomes a problem and you have to spend the first week or weeks of your holiday doing maintenance;
- Water houseplants, check on electrical equipment and make sure that pre-paid electri-city is replenished regularly; Supervise and or arrange gardening and cleaning services upon request;
- Arrange transport for property owners to and from the airport;
- Buy groceries in advance until property owners can go to the shops;
"Should the need arise, we will also provide house sitters. It is, after all the safer option considering the current crime statistics."
According to Sarita, there are already a capable workforce of older persons ready to be of service and as soon as they have acquired properties to look after, they can get going.
