NATIONAL NEWS - Lucky Mahlangu (25), a well-known singer and photographer in the community, died after being shot on May 13 in Mayfield, Daveyton, Benoni City Times reports.
Lucky and his friend Thandokuhle Mazwanyane (20) were walking to a tavern to buy cigarettes when two armed men approached them.
It is alleged the suspects asked for a cigarette and the two friends responded that they didn’t have any.
One of the suspects drew a gun and cocked it.
“We ran away after he cocked his gun. Then he chased us while firing shots,” said Mazwanyane.
Mazwanyane said he knew they had been shot when Lucky collapsed just one street away from his home.
Some of the residents came out of their houses to see what was happening saw the suspects fleeing the scene.
“I ran to Lucky’s house and called his brother and told him what happened,” said Mazwanyane.
The younger brother, Nkosinathi, said that when he reached the spot, his brother was lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
One of the residents offered to transport Lucky to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead.
Lucky suffered a gunshot wound to his left thigh and Mazwanyane suffered two gunshot wounds to both feet.
Miesie Nkosi Mahlangu, Lucky’s mother, said she was shocked when she heard that her son had been killed.
“The men who killed my son must be found and brought to justice,” she added.
Constable Raider Ubisi, Putfontein SAPS communications officer, said a murder case has been opened and the case is under investigation.
SAPS confirmed that no arrests have been made.
