MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Three people, all aged 24, were arrested following a protest in which tyres and sticks were burnt in Louis Fourie Road at De Bakke on Wednesday night, 25 July.
The road had to be closed for a period of time while the road was being cleared.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said today that the three were arrested on charges of public violence and malicious damage to property. He said they are in custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
The situation in Mossel Bay is calm and police will remain in the area to monitor the area, said Spies today.
Mossel Bay Municipality notified the public about the protest on its Facebook page on Wednesday at 19:30, stating that Louis Fourie Road had been closed by provincial traffic officials. Later, the section of road closed was extended to Nautica flats in De Bakke and Watson Street (at the Agri SSK shop) in Voorbaai.
At 20:50, the municipality posted on Facebook that the protesters had dispersed peacefully and by 22:00, the road was reopened.
