MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two suspects who were arrested for the murder of 21-year-old Mossel Bay resident, Rikus Raath, made their first appearance in the Mossel Bay Regional Court on Friday, 21 January.
Khaya Makalima (18) and Masimilelo Tshangayi (23) made a brief court appearance and the case was postponed to 18 February. Both men are being charged with murder.
Raath was stabbed with a sharp object while he was waiting at a traffic light in Louis Fourie Road on his way back from buying milk on 5 June 2021. He had gone to a shop on foot from his suburb of Boland Park.
Da Gamaskop neighbourhood watch members, Hannelie Marais and Philip Mattheus, were on the scene shortly after the two suspects ran away at 17:00 on the day of the murder.
Mossel Bay residents were shocked by the murder that took place in broad daylight at the busy traffic light.

The suspects were arrested shortly after the murder following an intensive police operation.
