MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Agri Western Cape said today, Thursday 7 May, that it took note of a new confirmed case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in the Mossel Bay area.
The case was identified on a small beef farm on the edge of the existing 10km quarantine zone in Great Brak River, on the border of the George area.
According to Rojeanne de Wet, media liaison for Agri Western Cape, officials noticed suspicious lesions during inspection and vaccination activities, after which samples were collected. Test results received today confirmed the case as positive for FMD.
“Most farms within the 10km area have already been vaccinated, and the remaining properties will be vaccinated as weather conditions allow.
“Agri Western Cape urgently appeals to all producers to maintain biosecurity as a top priority while the virus remains present in the area. Strict control measures and responsible action remain essential to limit further spread,” said De Wet.
