MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Last week, Mossel Bay deputy executive mayor, Alderman Cliffie Bayman, was joined by Directorate of Community Services officials, representatives of the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, members of the Ruiterbos community and representatives of Transand in breaking ground for a new community health clinic in Ruiterbos.
The municipal officials were Setchmor Rhoodes (community development coordinator: rural development), Haylene Claassen (manager of community development) and Logan Duthie (community development coordinator: rural development).
The representatives of the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness were led by Dr Jaco Bothma (medical manager: Mossel Bay sub-district). Ruiterbos is a village outside Mossel Bay, on the R328 towards Oudtshoorn.
Speaking at the event, Alderman Bayman said: "Mossel Bay is fast becoming a leading destination, not only for economic, but also social investment."
He said that in Mossel Bay, almost every success is testament to a meaningful partnership. "This morning, we are here at the site of what will become a clinic to celebrate a different, but equally important kind of investment: one that will bring jobs, attract businesses and help grow the economy of Mossel Bay."
He thanked the Western Cape provincial government for continuing to take hands with local government to deliver the best in healthcare to Mossel Bay. Rhoodes, said the clinic, a partnership project between the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, Transand, Mossel Bay Municipality and the community of Ruiterbos, would mean a projected spend of R2.1 million invested in accessible healthcare for the community.
The facility would include a sceptic tank for ablution facilities and have solar power to ensure continued service delivery during loadshedding.
